What a piece of software. Easy to load, easy to set up, easy to use, it even looks nice. And it's free. Having installed a DVD burner I braced myself for a trawl throught the net to find the best piece of software to use and I was prepared to pay. Well if you are about to do the same, don't bother - just get DVD Shrink and start burning now.
In all honesty, how can you not love this. I use to use dvd copy x, what a piece of ya know what. This program is great. I would use it though with anydvd running in the backround though.
There is some new encryptions that is can't get through, like the sony arcoos. However, in the next few months it will show its age. The people who make this tool are no longer updating in a post they put on their site. Oh well. This software is absolutely wonderful! Once you learn how to use them and understand how they work, you will really love it! What's even more amazing is that it's F-R-E-E!! This is the best tool I ever have. Keep up with the good work. Most excellent software. I brought a copy of Shrink and Decrypter to work to share with a friend and now they are the defacto burning software for the entire town! No one uses anything else. Any problems wind up as hardware related. As to antuktuks comments they are always gonna try new ways to stop people ripping dvd's but what they dont see is there is always someone who is a step ahead making a program that bypasses their protection they aint ever gonna learn as their under the impresssion they'll win.
But we all know they aint. Also using "NERO"as the copying software. After that it's all DVD Shrink. This can all be done using DVD Shrink. I also have Nero 9. This is a great program. I tried using X Copy Hopefully they will post an update for the new copy protection soon, but AnyDVD works in conjunction just fine. Anyway, with DVD Shrink it's a snap to copy just the movie or just the extras or copy the whole disc. And it's free What a deal, it's easy and effective! Most excellent. This application rocks! The features alone make this software great from editing the movie portion alone or a full back up and also editing for 1 to 1 compression. This software is good but it needs reduction of the time which is needed for improving the quality of picture and encoding to be quicker than that long time which is from 2 to3. It allows you virtually complete control over the backing up movies, removal of unnecessary 'features', and if you've got a lot of HD storage, you can use Nero later to burn xtra copies.
The only nit is that it can take 4 hours to back up a 4 hour DVD, it's so exact. If you're in a hurry, there are some other totally products available that speed through this process. Use re-author and drag over the main title, and then use compression tab to remove any subs and extra languages, if missed by your default settings. I use RE-Author alot as I feel alot of the extras on some dvds are crap I backup the dvd with just the movie. This is by far the easiest program I have ever used for what it does and of course it is free.
You want to backup your dvds no matter what your skill level? I have been trying to do this for 3 months since i got my burner and i have wasted so many discs and tried a LOT of different software. Great program, have yet to had a problem with it.
One thing though, is it possible to just not copy certain parts of the DVD, or can you only set the compression on it really low? I found DVD Shrink to be quite user friendly and work very well. Very Powerful software, a must have. It works great for back up all my DVD. Do I need a dvd burner to burn dvds? What do i do next? I just rip 'em to my hard drive as ISO files and let Nero 6 burn 'em back to a disk. Simple and reliable, I believe it even supports dual layer now.
And it's not nearly as sensitive to background programs blacklist software as the XCopy products. Fact is, I've retired XCopy Platinum. Now I'm short of coasters to set my drinks on - always had plenty with the X-Copy programs!

Been useing Shrink for over 6 mths now and had nothing but great results. No problems with this latest version I have been using this soft for a year or so, and i think its great. Happend to me twice not taking the DVD Excellent software. Any downside? Well, it would be really nice if you could re-author just the movie with the menus.
But that's only a quible when you consider DVD Shrink is free. My tip for particularly long films or discs packed with extras - re-author just the film. You get less compression and who really looks at all those extras anyway? Very high quality software. Easy to use, excellent userinterface, afterdawn forum, what more do you want, and its freeware ;-. I have used other dvd copy software and even bought software from pc world,but nothing comes close to DVD shrink the mother of all copy software.

This is a great FREE disc backup solution. For most people this is, to quote another "the dog's danglers". I haven't used it yet but in the change log it states "target for dvd-9 added". Why is this needed if the point of shrink is to bypass the need for DL discs???? But anyway This might sound facetious, if so, sorry, as i know the author is doing great work, all for FREE. This software is the best thing available for making copies of a DVD,and it's free! I've used it for over a year,it just keeps getting better. Probably the single most useful and definitely the best piece of software I use. I recommend it to someone new every week. The video quality of backups is superb, and with a quick PC you can copy and burn a 2 hour film in just over 20 minutes.
This software is awesome! Dvd shrink fired up and hasn't screwed up once. I do get a couple of blurps sometimes but I think it's in my system. Wish i would have found this stuff before paying 60 bucks for something that didn't even work.
